This is in the category of "for what it's worth".
I'd like to pass along my experience loading Office Pro 2003 on a machine
running Vista Ultimate. It may have been discussed before; but, since I'm
new to this newsgroup, the "batch" of questions/comments in the first
download I received did not comment on this issue.
I recently purchased a new high-end laptop running Vista Ultimate. When I
loaded Office 2003, everything seemed to work just fine. But, the only
animated "assistant" available was the paperclip. When I attempted to choose
another assistant, I received a "not enough memory" error message. So, I
was either stuck with irritating Mr. Paperclip or turn off the assistant
entirely. I posted the problem on the Dell Forum site. The one response I
got was informing me there "ain't" no conflicts. When I researched MS's
Knowledge Base, I could find nothing. I finally was fortunate enough to
stumble across this very issue that someone inquired of the group and a
person answered, giving the workaround. They were told MS knows about this
problem but, so far, has not addressed it. They were also told to go to the
site below. I did so. And, following the instructions, which were fairly
easy, I was able to get a fix and now have my favorite office assistant
back. I'm informed that this also works for Office 2000 and XP.
Hope this helps,
Ernie
