Problem enter actuals directly into workpan

There are a couple of resources that have not been submitting their time
through PWA, so the workplan manager enters time directly into the workplan.
It is 8 hours a day for 1 task, so it's pretty simple. The issue arises
when looking in the workplan, there is 8 hours of work assigned to the task
for each day, but when 8 is entered in for actual work, both automatically
change to a slightly smaller number (7.83, or 7.77 hours).

Even after simply typing 8 and clicking away, why would Project change this
to a smaller number? The task is fixed work and there arent any constraints
(As soon as possible). Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

Unless someone else has a better answer...

The task is corrupted.

Insert a blank task under that task.
"Re-type", meaning do not cut and paste
a single item, character, or number for the
entire line. Re-type the whole task and
enter all data manually by typing it.

Verifity that the times look identical, then
delete the offending task.

If you even cut and pasted "blanks" you
brought the corruption over to the new
task, so don't cut and paste anything...

You can always try this and if you goof,
you can "not save" the project plan so
no additional damage will be done by
doing this (until you hit "save" of course);
or you ncan create a copy of the
offending file and try it there...
