Problem Entering Custom Fields in MS Project 2007 PLEASE HELP!!!

Hey everyone

I am working on a huge platform development project. We are dealing with a large amount of requests from various departments. I thought it would be useful to add a custom field named "Department" so that I could sort by this field and have a good view of what is needed by each department. I have gotten the field up and running so I can enter the text. The problem I am dealing with, is whatever I type in the custom text field I have added, is mirrored in the Priority field (in the main view, not the Gaant Chart view). Clearly this is a huge problem, because the priority column is huge, when dealing with a large interdepartmental project. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "mirrored" in the Priority field
and it's a mystery what it is in one view and not the the other.

When you added the custom field, did you create the custom field by
changing the header column name, or use Menu: Tools/Customize/Fields and
customize one of the Text fields.

Priority is a pre-defined field in Project and is a number, and
therefore won't hold text so the fact that it displays text in one of
your views makes me have the hunch that in the view where the wrong info
is dispalyed in a column called Priority is actually a numbered text
field with only it's name of the column heading changed to "Priority"
but in fact it displays, say Text1 which you customized to be
"Department". Just a hunch.
