Problem every time I close Word 2007 with a Word 97-2003 document

Jim

Almost every time I close a Word 97-2003 (compatibility mode) document in my
Word 2007 program I get a message that "Microsoft Office Word has encountered
a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I am also
told that "The informatiion you were working on might be lost. Microsoft
Office Word can try to recover it for you." Finally, I am given the option
of reporting this error to Microsoft via an error report to Microsoft. I
never receive an option to find out what is causing the error. Is it just me
or are others experiencing this problem? Thanks.

Hi Jim,

Have you run the Diagnostics from Word Options?
(Alt, F, I, R)

Are these documents that are new in Word 2007 saving in compatibility mode or ones that were from an older version then edited in
Word 2007?

Is it happening on all documents or just some documents?

Are these documents being opened from email, from a server, or from your local disk?

If you start Word while holding the ctrl key do you get the same result (it could be a conflicting add-in).

When you get the 'report to Microsoft' option and if you're sending it to Microsoft before doing so, what information is in the
'details' link in the dialog?

I have encountered the same problem and found out that Word as a problem with
my print drivers. So far HP can't resolve the problem so what I had to do is
change my default printer in Windows XP. I use a PDF printer instead! When
you print you will have to remember to change it back to your real printer.

I have the exact same problem with word 2007; I have the latest mid class
laptop, vista home and 2007 office std edition fully installed. issues occur
for me similarly with word docs not made and stored in 2007, but made in 2007
and filed and stored/edited in 97-2003 compatability mode. All files open
and close acceptably if no editing is done.

Pls notify all if this bug is solved.

This series of work steps still does not correct the problem. I did as
requested: all tmp files were deleted as listed in temp files and ~$ files,
etc. Word 2007 in std version continues to say it has a file it cannot open
upon closing when a doc is open upon the red x close command. same as
described by earlier people.

Would you please explain your problem exactly please. You have stolen
someone else's thread and it is confusing to know what your problem really
is. It is always best to start a fresh posting.

Are you saying that Word crashes when you CLOSE a document? Are you using an
HP Printer?
