Problem Exiting

A couple times recently, when exiting Word and trying to save, I've
gotten an error message (which I don't remember) followed by something
that says that a file that ends with .tmp cannot be accessed because of
a closed Internet connection or removed floppy disk (which is obviously
BS), and gives the options of retry or cancel. Retry just comes up with
the same thing again, and the result is that the document I was working
on has disappeared.

I still have the regular backup file, of course, and the computer makes
a "rescued document" file when this happens, though this is a text file
full of boxes and things and I don't know how to use it.

This isn't incredibly tragic, since at worst it means trying to figure
out what work made it into the backup file and what needs to be redone,
but it is still not acceptable.

Thanks for any help.

Word creates a variety of temporary files when a document is open, some in
the Windows temporary file area, some in the working folder. If for some
reason those temporary files are inaccessible, Word will crash. Never access
documents directly from e-mail attachments or removable media. Clear out the
orphan temporary files
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm and empty your
internet cache.
