Problem Grouping Photos

Hello,

I have two things I'm trying to meld into a Word document (I have Word
2004).

First, I have one page of text. Second, I have small photos (eight of
them) which I've dragged onto my desktop from various web pages and
then dragged into another new Word document (they occupy less than a
full page); as it happens, the arrangement these eight photos took when
they were dragged onto the page isn't bad at all.

I want to "group" those eight photos (just as they stand), "pull" them
over as a group to my text page, and then see what I can do further
with the photos: maybe watermark them or otherwise insert them
somewhere in the text.

Now, according to Word help, you "group objects" into a single unit
(multiple objects) this way: "To select multiple objects, hold down
SHIFT and click the objects." Next you go to Size, Rotation, and
Ordering in the Formatting Palette and click Group.

The problem I'm having is that only two or three of the photos "take"
to the grouping procedure when I select/shift on them. That is, no
dotted line-boxes appear around these other photos. In fact, as I
recall, select-shifting on one photo (which "takes") is wiped out when
I select-shift on a second of those photos.

BTW, I have it set to page layout view.

Does anyone have an inkling of what's going on here? All eight photos
are .jpeg, yet most will not form into a group. If the problem is not
solvable, is there another way I can achieve the transfer of some
bunched photos as a sort of over/underlay or as an insert in text?
Thanks for your help.

What you're running into is that in order to Group the objects they must
have Text Wrapping applied - Anything other than In Line with Text. Use the
Picture Toolbar, Formatting Palette or the Layout page of the Format Picture
dialog to change the wrapping of each image, then you should be able to
select & Group without a problem.

Thanks CyberTaz. I've had a devil of a time squeezing those photos
(small as they are) into my line spacing/para spacing text formatting.
So, I've followed instructions and enlarged those dimensions in the
text and the photos finally appeared full size.

But, further problems arose because I have the top half of the text
double columned and the bottom half single columned. That played all
kinds of havoc with where the photos decided to nestle. Not a pretty
sight. Then I thought, maybe the way to go to sidestep all this photo
spacing stuff would be to make the photo batch into a single watermark
but my patience ran out before the task. So, there's a lot of playing
around yet to do in my spare time.

Meanwhile, I've let neccesity be the mother. I somehow, don't know how,
managed to achieve a fairly nice looking document, photos and all.
Thanks again.
