Problem importing jpegs

Tom Ulrich

I just loaded the Office 2003 beta 2 along with the
most current updates. However, when I try to insert
graphics into a word or publisher document a dialog
box is displayed (Convert File) asking me which file
format to convert from. Regardless of what I select, ie
jpeg for a jpg file of tiff for a tif file, I receive the
following error message "an error occurred while importing
file......" The files preview fine in the selection
dialog box.

This occurs with most of my graphic files (mostly saved
digital pictures stored as jpegs), though some graphics
saved from web sites do import ok.

The files import fine into earlier versions of office
including XP. In fact the beta program will load the doc
or pub files created in the older versions fine, including
the graphic files that will not load into the new versions
of the program.

All graphic filters appear to be present.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated. I'd like to
give the beta program a thorough try, but it will be

Hi Tom,

It could be a corrupted graphics filter.
Is Office 2003 installed by itself or with
another version of Office.

Do you get this if you start Word 2003 in Office
Safe mode (hold ctrl key when starting Word) and
using a new blank document? If so, you may want
to try a repair/reinstall of Office.

Bob -

Thanks for the response. I have installed the Office
Beta by itself. It was installed over the XP or 2002
version but I removed the older version during the
process. I have also reinstalled the Beta version since
encountering the problem, once in repair mode and the
second time completely. Still no change in how Word and
Publisher handle the graphics import. Same for when I
operate Word in safe mode.

Is there a specific file for the jpeg conversion?
Perhaps I could download it and copy it to its appropriate
location to see if that has any impact ?

Hi Tom,

Check for JPEG32IM.FLT. Move the existing
one then try a repair/reinstall of Office and
see if that helps.

Thanks Bob -

I searched my drives and all I could find was Jpeg32.dll.
No JPEG32IM.FLT. Could this be the issue ? I'll try
reinstalling the beta a third time to see if it loads up
the file. If not, any suggestions on where I can find
it. THanks a>-----Original Message-----
