Problem importing mail from Yahoo! Mail (POP)

I have set up my Entourage mail to receive my Yahoo emails via POP (you
don't need to pay the premium Mail Plus subscription for this any more).
However, upon opening Entourage, it downloads all the emails I have ever
received into Yahoo (over 14,000!). This takes over 12 hours. Then, when
it's finished, if I do Send/Receive, it starts to download them all again
from the start. Why is this? I don't want it to happen.

I am using Entourage version 11.0.0 (040405) from Microsoft Entourage 2004
for Mac. Using Mac OS 10.5.6.

Do you have the account in Entourage configured to leave mail on the
server? This isn't always 100% reliable, especially if the server is
wonky.

If you need to keep all that mail, move it OUT of the Inbox and into a
subfolder on the Yahoo! server. Leave your Inbox for new mail only, not
storage.
