Problem Importing XML File

S

Shano

I had some problems publishing a project plan so after reading some other
posts decided to export to XML, reimport to create a new project plan and
then import to server. This caused MS Project to crash when either saving the
XML or importing the XML itself.

After that we tried splitting the project plan into 2 or 3 but there always
remains one mpp that gives problems.

Is there anything specific I should be looking out for??

I did notice that the XML generated from a mpp of 3mb was over 133mb.
Is that normal?

Any suggestions/guidance here would be extremely helpful.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shano,
firstly, the xml file is way to big. I would assume that there is something
not right with the file hence the reason why your system crashes.

I would re-export the mpp file to an xml file to see if this is fixing the
problem. I would then use the import wizard to import this xml file into
project server.

Let me know if this resolved the issue

Hi Marc,

The XML export remains the same size when I export it again.
I'll try to import it straight to server and see what happens.

Tks,

Thanks Marc

It looks to be completely hung at the minute but I'll give it some more time.

I'm not to optimistic however.

Would there be anything withing the plan that I could check that might be
causing corruption?

Tks,
Shane

I am now trying to import an xml file from a previous backup of the plan that
the customer had.

I now get a message in during the import sayingt the following.

"The actual finish date is before some of the previously entered timephased
actual work values.

If you continue with this operation, Microsfot will truncate some of the
previously entered timephased actual work values.

To continue, click ok.

To remove the actual finish date, click cancel"

No matter if I click ok or cancel, the operation seems to crash MS Project.

Any ideas?
