Problem in constructing Pivot Table

Dear Gurus,

We are facing problem with pivot table creation, I get an alert "microsoft
excel cannot create pivot table because there are too many rows or column
items. Drag atleast one row or column field off the pivot table, or to the
page position. alternatively, right click a field, and then click hide or
hide labels on the shortcut menus"

Is there a limitation for number of columns or rows, if so.

What is the limit for number of columns?
