problem in Palm hotsync to outlook, 'want mail only on Outlook Exp

I have Outlook Express as my default mail client. Using Windows XP Prof.

I then installed MS Office 2003 – declining to make MS Office Outlook as my
default client in the process.

I installed Palm Desktop making MS Outlook the place where the
synchronization is to take place.

During installation, it is interrupted by a message window saying “Either
there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the
messaging request. Please run MS Office outlook and set it as the default
mail client. [OK].â€

Having no choice, I click [OK] (4 times).

After this, the log file says:

You can close Outlook Express and instead open Outlook with the /checkclient
switch to change your default client.

Hi Kathleen,

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm not sure I made myself clear in the
original post. I want my email to be entirely in Outlook Express and to have
MS Outlook not have anything to do with email. Whenever I try to hotsync, it
tries to make me set Outlook as my default mail client. I'm using Palm V and
don't want email to be any part of the synchronization process. I think that
what you're suggesting may be moving in the opposite direction from what I
need.

Outlook MUST be the default client in order for the Palm sync to occur, I
believe. That doesn't preclude you from using Outlook Express exclusively
for your mail.
