Problem in word 95

Mitch

Hi,

I recently gave my Mother an older computer of mine since
she wanted it primarily for using it to type stories in
word and for solitaire.
Somehow when she was using it and putting things on a
floppy all hell broke loose and I can't figure out what
is wrong.
Right now when I try to open word, I get the opening
screen and then it goes right to the task bar (with no
document opening). When I try to double click on it
nothing happens. When I right click the restore option is
not available, so I can only close it.
Unfortunately I don't have the office cd to reinstall it.
Is there anyone who has any suggestions on a way to fix
it, or what to check?
If so, could you email me since I might not be able to
check back on this posting. Thank you very much.

When you right-click on the Taskbar button do you have the options to
Maximize and Minimize? If so, the Word window is opening offscreen. Open any
other window, then right-click an empty area of the Taskbar and choose
Cascade. This should bring the Word window back in view. Use the mouse to
move and size it to your preference (and to set its new position), then quit
Word. When you restart, the window should be where you left it.

FWIW, I always run Word maximized, and I should think your mother might
prefer that, too, if that's what she's mostly using the computer for. If
you're starting from a desktop shortcut, right-click the icon and choose
Properties. On the Shortcut tab, you can choose Maximized, and Word will
always open maximized.
