Problem inserting music

I am using Powerpoint 2002 both at home and work.

On my computer at home, I am unable to insert music. I have done this
before, but don't know what is wrong. The procedure I am using is:

Insert > Movies & Sounds > Sound From File

Then I choose the file (song) I want to insert. However, I am getting the
following error:

Powerpoint couldn't insert a sound from the select file

However, when I took the files to work and repeated the same steps, I was
able to insert the music into the powerpoint. Interestingly, when I got back
home and ran the powerpoint (with music inserted), the music would not play.

Is there some "switch" or something that I need to enable/disable?
Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Les

Which format is the sound file? Only wav files get inserted into
presentations depending on the max filesize (50000kb max) set. If other than
a wav file, when you took the PowerPoint presentation home, did you also
take along the music file?

Try moving the sound file at home into a folder that is less buried in the
file structure. Ideally something like C:\ppts but usually tyhe desktop is
fine. Put the Powerpoint in that folder too and insert again. When you move
computers take the whole folder. There's a lot more on sounds on our tutorial
pages here:

The files were on a memory stick when they were executed at work. At home, I
copied the entire folder (muisc & presentation in same folder) on the the C:'
drive.

The format for the music is mp3, which I have used in powerpoint
presentations before.

I copied the entire folder to DESKTOP. I noticed that the sound icon
referenced the song on the memory stick (G:\). So I deleted the current
music entry and tried to insert using the music from the new locate
C:\Desktop. I got that same error again. I did not save it and the original
presentation is still saved on the memory stick, which is what I may have to
use to run the presentation if I cannot get this thing working off the hard
drive.

Did you put the file in the same folder as the presentation BEFORE you
inserted the music?

Not a good place to run a presentation form. Make sure you have the music in
the same folder as the presentation before you insert it. try that and see
what happens.

All files were in the same folder. The ONLY time the presentation executed
correctly was when I inserted the music file into the presentation while on
the memory stick at work. Nothing else has worked. I have placed the folder
in DESKTOP and another location "buried" as subdirectory on hard drive. I
really do not know why I cannot insert the music and execute the
presentation. If you come up with any other suggestions.

Thanks again,
Les
