I don't know if this is an Office question or a Visual Studio question, but
so-far, tech support hasn't helped.
A few weeks ago I encountered a problem with an add-in for Outlook. When
Outlook is started a message box appears, stating "preparing to install".
This is quickly replaced with a box having the header "Microsoft Visual C++
2005 Express Edition - ENU" containing the text "Please wait while Windows
configures Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition - ENU". This is
followed with a second box having the same heading containg the message "The
feature you ar trying to use is ... unavailable. Click OK to try again, or
enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package
'vcsetup.msi'..."
The add-in was written with VB6.
I uninstalled the add-in.
This week, I attempted to install an add-in for Excel and got the same
message boxes.
About 15 months ago I had the Visual Studio 2005 beta packages on my
computer. They were uninstalled when I purchased the standard Visual Studio
development software.
Does anyone have any idea why attempting to install the add-in packages is
generating these messages, or how I can get around it?
