Problem installing Microsoft Office XP w/ Front Page update

Q

quietnation04

After downloading the Microsoft Office XP w/ Front Page update,
receive an error message half way through the installation which begin
with:

Insert the Windows XP Pro Disk and click OK, then after doing this, a
error message appears saying:

Installation cannot continue. Try to find installation packag
PROPLUS.MSI in a folder from which you can install the produc
Microsoft Office XP Professional w/ Frontpage.

I have searched and tried locating this file in the Office folder
system 32 and elsewhere, but is no where to be found.

Is this file available for download, or do I have to uninstall Offic
and reinstall?

And lastly, can I purchase a CD for Microsoft Office XP w/ Frontpage
and if possible, is there a way in which to use the Windows XP Pro C
to repair or replace this file. I am up to any suggestions anyone ca
provide

Why not just put in your Office XP Professional with Front Page CD?

To Milly Staples,

Because I do not have the CD Office Professional w/ Frontpage. M
operating system was installed with Microsoft XP Professional CD whic
comes with Office Pro, and when using this CD during the update; well
I have already explained what occurred. Why do you think I asked th
question - "and lastly, can I purchase a CD for Microsoft Office w
Frontpage" - which of course I suppose I could, but I read in othe
forums that this application has problems when using a CD other tha
the one it was installed from. If you are interested, you can visi
this site and read for yourself. The link to this site is:

To a garfield-n-odie,

As for the other post regarding pirated/stolen/bootleg software, th
person who wrote this apparently does not know how to read a simpl
post. The CD my copy of Office w/ Frontpage was installed from
validated Windows XP Professional CD I purchased from Microsoft.
think it to be a wise idea if you were to read the entire post instea
of skimming through it

Well, Mr. Garfield, head strong, jump to conclusions, respond wit
impunity, or perhaps just a person who tells everyone he/she is a spee
reader, but really isn't!
Perhaps you should read my reply to your condescending post, but oh
that's right; your a know-it-all geek who thinks everyone should be
computer expert with no compassion for the human condition. Besides,
thought forums were a place to learn from one another; not to perfor
for an audience.

And just maybe your subconcious was talking, and your computer i
filled with pirated/stolen/bootleg software.

So now whose furious and scratching their head?

Your operating system wasn't installed with anything. Your computer uses an
operating system and then you run programs within that.

No, you can no longer buy Office XP. It doesn't matter if it is the Pro
version or if it has or doesn't have FrontPage, which, by the way, is no
longer being produced. That version of Office hasn't been sold for several
years.

And to explain another comment about pirated software, that specific edition
of Office holds the record for pirated versions. Since you don't have the
CDs, one cannot help but wonder how you managed to have it on your system.
If someone put it on your computer for you, then you should have the CDs. If
you don't, then you should not have it on your computer.

Microsoft does not sell an operating system with an office suite on the same CD. They have always been separate purchases on separate CD/DVDs. If yours came on the same CD/DVD, it did NOT come from Microsoft.

JoAnne,

I'm surprised at your rather terse responses to messages sent in by users
obviously not as technically minded as you.

I provide customised, hosted CRM software that has an Outlook Intellisync
function. I have a client who wanted to use this feature and when we tried to
install it for him, we found that Outlook was not installed on his system at
all. When we tried to install it via Add / Remove Programs we saw the same
error message as the user in this post. He had bought the computer some years
ago from a reseller (such as Advent) with the Office XP & Frontpage
pre-installed. He has a genuine, branded Micorsoft Office disk with the
application on it but there is no trace of the required MSI.

He has resigned himself to the fact that he's going to have a substantial
outlay to purchase a newer version of Office. The fact is - and this may come
as a shock to you - he didn't buy a pirated version of Office and it came as
a shock to him when I directed him to this thread to give him the good news.

Forutnately, I didn't tell him I believed him to be a thieving,
good-for-nothing software pirate, which is essentially what you did to the
unfortunate user in this case.

Many users will find themselves in this position because, believe it or not,
software vendors tend to deliberately make product combinations confusing in
order to upsell them to the max. (How many different versions of office 2007
are there - off the top of your head?) Only a few of those users would
consider coming to these forums for help, so you should treat them as
confused rather than dishonest. Let's face it - would someone who
deliberately bought pirated software come to Microsoft to ask how to install
it or would they just go to their 'dealer' and get the latest hacked version?

As an IT professional and a provider of IT systems, I feel that I should
support those people not fortunate to have a computer science degree and
numerous years of industry experience instead of alienating them. As an MVP
you have the same responsibility.

Regards
Sion

I also have the same problem. I use IBM thinkpad labtop from IBM authorized
dealer. The campaing was launch by IBM with pre-install windows XP home, and
Office XP. This campaing were add in many medias.
My office passed MS validation, but it still need CD. So, does it means that
OEM or preinstall software that we pay to Computer Manuf does aligible for
major update.
So, why should be pay for authentic OEM software anyway
