Problem installing Office 2003 SP2

S

Sea scientist

I recently tried to update Office 2003 with SP2. I am on dialup at home and
decided to use a broadband connection at work to download the ...client enu
file and the ...fulfile enu file. On execution the program began and then
stopped saying "The expected Product Version was not found on your system". I
then downloaded using Office Update (on dialup at home) and the installation
failed. I then used Windows Update (again on dialup at home) and the service
pack installed. However, Office Update still says that I need Office
SP2...why? I have cleaned my registry after every failed installation and
also tried uninstalling Office 2003 and repeating, again, cleaning the
registry of Office 2003 references. None of my files appear updated except
the "About" section in all my Office programs does state version ...SP2. I've
had no problem updating Office 2003 before, hence, the question. Have I
actually updated my Office package completely? Is there another way to tell?

There is no SP2 for Office 2003. Only SP1.

If there is now SP2 for Office 2003, then I don't know what I've trying
to intsall the past week or so with absolutely no luck. Even though it
failed to install, everytime I start up Excel it trys to install something.

Sea Scientist, looks like your products were updated to SP2, it's possible
you saw that error message because may have Office Web Components download
from the web, if that's the case you'll see Office Web Components in your
Add/Remove programs list. But as far as I can tell you should be ok.

I downloaded (56k) Office2003 SP2 on 9/28. Today, MS Update says to download
it again, but ABOUT still indicates SP2. Office Web Components is not in
Add/Remove list. Can't order SP2 on CD? But can order SP1 on CD?

There are several SP2 patches, what Office products do youhave in Add/Remove
programs? Perhaps MS Update is trying to download another ones (for Project,
Visio and or OneNote, etc).
Also, the CD version of SP2 will be released soon, it's always released a
few weeks after the web release.

I've got Office Professional Edition 2003 on a single CD, typical install. I
originally got SP2 from the Office Update website. It installed
successfully, and all suite applications are designated SP2 in About.

Shortly after the SP2 update, I began using the Microsoft Update website to
check on both Windows and Office simultaneously, rather than using the
Windows Update website individually. The Microsoft Update website history
showed the Office 2003 SP2 installed successfully, yet it still was
recommending the SP2 update. That's a problem via dial-up, because it's more
than a four hour download, and requires a midstream re-connect. I did it
once, didn't want to do it again for no good reason.

Subsequently, I found the distibution file (FullFile-101mb), and saved it to
hdd. The installation process recognized that it had already been installed,
and now Microsoft Update no longer recommends it as an update. I hope there
are not several SP2 patches that are this large. Thankyou. Formerly, not
pleased.

I should mention that MS Update wasn't re-recommending SP2 update until an
update for Outlook Junk E-Mail came along, and I see in its description that
the two should be installed together. I understand that the Outlook Junk
E-Mail update is a recurring event.

So, will I be prompted to download and install a newer version of SP2 each
month, or can I reuse the FullFile-101mb download that I already have stored,
to accompany the repeating Outlook Junk E-Mail update? If Outlook needs a
newer version SP2 each time, that's not good at all.

Microsoft Update should no longer be offering you SP2 again. You only need to
install it once, not once per month like the Junk Email Filter.

Try doing a repair install, then try the update again:

Method 1 – Open Word, go to Help – Select Detect and Repair

or use Method 2 -

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click the Office program that you want to repair, and then click Change.
4. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, click Reinstall or Repair,
and then
click Next.
5. In the Reinstall or Repair Office dialog box, click Detect and Repair
errors in my
Office installation, and then click Install.
6. When the repair process is finished, run the update again.

Most likely you will need to have your Office CD handy.

I'm having the same problem: I try to install the full download file, and I
get an "installation failed" message. I don't have the Web version in my
"Add/Remove" box, and I only have Office 2003 Professional SP1, according to
the "About" specs. What do I do?
