Problem installing Outlook Business Contact Manger

I recently bought a laptop with BCM installed OEM. I started using the BCM
and when I "synced" my laptop to my desktop, all my business contacts
disappeared in my desktop that has Outlook 2003 without BCM. I purchased BCM
and I tryed to install it on the desktop. Toward the end of the program, I
got a message that said it had a problem with the server (which I don't have
- this computer functions as the server in a small wireless network) and that
the problem could be found in the log (I presume the install log). It then
uninstall BCM. Well, I can't locate a log for this install anywhere. I
haven't a clue what the filename would be.

Can anyone give me any clues?

It is unlikely that the sync software would understand how to move BCM
data between your machines. You have two choices:

1) Export Business Contacts and Accounts from one machine and Import
the file into the second BCM. Be aware that BCM may not export all your
data--e.g. it doesn't export history items. The BCM v2 beta does full
(including Opportunities, Activities, and Products) exports and
imports, and in addition will merge records during imports.

2) Backup up your BCM database, move the backup file to the second
machine, and restore the database on the second machine.

Hi Luther,

The problem is not in importing/exporting. I'm aware of how to do that but
thank you for the reminder. The problem is in installing the BCM that I have
on an official Microsoft CD (hologram, logo, etc) into my current desktop
computer with MS Office 2003 SBE. The program installed with no problem
until it was nearly complete then gave me an error message that said see the
install log but didn't give me an install log name/path and I can't find it
to figure out what the problem was. It mentioned a server problem but this
network is peer-to-peer without a server.

Does anyone know what where MS places install logs?

You do have a server on your machine. BCM installs MSDE, which is the "lite"
version of SQL Server.

Installation logs are in C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local
Settings\Temp

Hi Sue,

Thanks for helping once again!

The desktop contains a peer-to-peer network with a wireless modem to 3 other
computers but SQL or MS server per se. This computer is the network hub for
the wireless network.

Thanks for the direction on the location of the 'log'. I did find the
folder but there are about 50 files in the folder. Any idea which one is the
install log?

The only way to figure out which log is which is to look at it. If the MSDE
installation failed, then BCM cannot install.

Hi Sue,

The message in the "progress" log, which appears to be the correct log to
find th problem lists 'output calling: ToolExec' on 11 lines. No other
messages are seen. Does that mean anything to you? No mention of an MSDE
installation failure.
