problem installing sp1

M

michal

Hello,

I tried installing Office XP sp 1 following
reinstallation of Windows XP (system failure :(() and all
patches but get (protection from the worm) Error 1328 -
C:\Config.Msi\PT273.tmp - Error applying patch to file.
It has probably been updated by other means, an can no
longer be modified by patch.

Has anyone bumped into this? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Michal

Hi Michal,

Try installing the "full file" version of the SP1 update
(MAINSP1_Admin.msp) that is included in oxpsp2a.exe. It
can be obtained from a link in the Office Resource Kit
Journal topic, "Office XP Update: Service Pack 1 (SP1)" -
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/journ/Oxpsp1.htm

Once you've downloaded the Oxpsp1a.exe file (~39MB), open
it to extract the contents to a temporary folder, then
double click the MAINSP1_Admin.msp file found in the
temporary folder to install the patch.

Thanks!

Hi Michal,

I saw your reply to my post below, so I am replying
directly to you in your post.

Try this:
1) Copy the OffXp CD to a folder on your local hard drive
(ex. c:\offxp)
2) Run the following cmd line from Start/Run:

msiexec /fvm c:\offxp\filename.msi (filename.msi will
vary depending on the version of OffXP that you have -
the .msi file will be found at the root of the CD or CD
flat and may be std.mst, stdret.msi, pro.msi, proret.msi,
etc.)

3) Download and run oxpsp1.exe from the link in article
307843 (OFFXP: Overview of the Office XP Service Pack 1 -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;307843)

Thanks!
