Hi,
I'm running Office 2000 on a Windows 2000 machine.
Sometime ago my hard disk had crashed and I had to restore
all the data back from our backup server. Most of the
folders and files work just fine. However, there is one
set of files (and ironically the most important) that I
just cannot open. These are Excel and Word documents and
the primary problem seems to be access permissions. I
cannot open these in any application, I cannot email them,
I tried copying them to a different location and opening
but even that does not work. The file names, sizes and
dates seem okay. I've tried logging in as Administrator
and giving "Everyone" full control but that does not work
either. The Advanced button in Properties shows the
documents are "encrypted to secure date". I uncheck that
box and click Apply but it refuses to do saying I don't
have the permission - even if I'm logged in as
Administrator. I've tried several different recovery
softwares but none of these work. Is there any way to
solve this? Is this some kind of strange checksum
permissions problem that can be completely reset? I would
appreciate any help in this matter - preferably by email
to (e-mail address removed) since I don't visit here very often
and would have a lot of catching up to do.
Thanks in advance,
Vallury
