Problem opening PowerPoint

W

Wilde

I have PowerPoint within Microsoft Office XP Small Business software.
PowerPoint used to work, but now, when I click on the PowerPoint icon, I
am given the error message
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\POWERPNT.EXE. A device
attached to the system is not functioning",
followed by error message
"Error Starting Program. The POWERPNT.EXE file is linked to missing
export MSO9.DLL : 1945".
But MSO9.DLL is to be found, on Windows Explorer, in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Office.
I am using Windows 98 SE. Please can you help and advise on how to
restore PowerPoint?
Thank you.

PowerPoint doesn't come with Office XP Small Business Edition, so I'm not
really sure which version of PPT you're using.

At any rate, here are some KB articles which may be relevant.

http://support.microsoft.com/search...&maxResults=150&Titles=false&numDays=&InCC=on

And dangit, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[LN];kbdown "
Search the Knowledge Base (KB) is currently not available. We are aware of
this issue and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible." So I can't
search for PPT 2002 results for you right now. Sorry.

Finally, you might try running a Detect and Repair. You can do this from the
Help menu of all the Office programs (Excel, Word, etc.), however, since PPT
is not really part of the Office XP SBE, I don't know if that will do the
trick or not. In that case, you might try using Add/Remove Programs from
your Windows Control Panel and see if you have a separate PPT installation
that you can do a repair installation for.
