Problem opening word document

When I try to open an existing word document Office 2007 student starts to
"configure" and "installs". I uninstalled and reinstalled program, but
problem continues.

So what is the problem? The fact that it configures before opening the
document or that it doesn't open the document? Please clarify.

Terry,
When I try to open a word document it starts the configure process. When
configure is through it starts the install process. It seems to run several
configure and install cycles. I have been able to open only one word
document. Most of the time it cycles through the configure and install
process. Not sure if configure and install are running in background when my
word document eventually (if ever) opens.

Not sure what your message meant. I did try to open another word document
and when the "configure" started I "x" it to stop. When the "install"
started I "x" out of that. The document opened. Once Word program was
started I was able to open any document from the "file open" .

I fixed the problem. I had a trial version of Office Publisher on my
computer. I tried to remove this software, but the message was "software
corrupted" I could not remove using Add or Remove Programs. I finally
removed the program manually following a complicated set of instructions
found at www.support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/en-us .
I reinstalled Office and everything is working great.
