problem paragraph spacing after

Word 2004 on a Mac G4 d867 1g ram (works beautifully btw)

I have set a paragraph style that includes: Alignment-centered,
Outline Level-Body Text, Indentation l-1" r-1" Special-none, Spacing
Before-o, after-36 pt linespacing-single.

The resulting style shows only the standard 5pt after spacing.

Reveal codes shows space before and after as "auto", and "don't add
space in between".

Why can't I get the 36 pt space after? There must be a setting
somplace I've missed. Clues?

Try adding a return directly after it.

Found it.

The Property "Style Based on" settings evidently override the space
formatting set in the current style...

Not intuitive, but at least I know now.

Hmmm, sounds odd. That should not be the case.
