problem printing even pages in mirror

I recently completed a document with mirror margins and printed it very
satisfactorily. Then I emailed it to a friend far away, with Suzanne
Barnhill's instructions for printing with mirror margins. He is reporting
this situation:

The odd pages print fine.

The even pages print incorrectly, e.g., page 34 prints next to page 33.

And -- printing stops after four or five sheets.

Any suggestions as to what is happening here?

I haven't a clue. What happens if he disables background printing (Tools |
Options | Print)?
