Problem printing graphic in Word 2003 v. Word 2000

Here’s a good summary of our problem. We have a template that includes a
graphic on the first page (the State seal). Part of our daily business is to
create a daily record of events from this template. In the 6+ years that
we’ve used this document (the image has never been changed) it has printed
without problem. Now that we’ve switched to Word 2003, when we output to a
printer that is set to a higher print resolution, we get “dots†around and
inside the image. If I open the exact same document in Word 2000 and print
to the same printer I do not get the problem. In speaking with our printing
vendor he seemed to think that we may just need a higher resolution (dpi)
graphic. But when I try to insert a graphic that is 2mb in size into my
document, it seems to compress the image automatically. The document size is
about 124k. No matter how I insert the graphic, 1) Insert, Picture, From
File… or 2) Copy/Paste, I get the same result which leads me to believe that
Word is doing some sort of automatic compression on the graphic insertion.
Here’s one more twist. If I create a new document using Word 2003 and print
it, I will have the problem. But if I open that same document in Word 2000
and print it, I don’t have the problem.
