Problem re-installing Office 2000

When my computer needed a new hard drive, everything was wiped, so I
re-installed my copy of Office 2000 Premium. The product key works fine for
installation, but when I try to open Word I get a prompt to enter it again --
when I do so, I'm told that it's an incorrect product key. This doesn't
happen for Excel or any of the other programs that were installed at the same
time. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, and nothing helps. Any
ideas?

I'm re-installing this on a Windows XP system that also has Microsoft Works
installed. Could that be the problem? I also tried to delete Works but
couldn't -- I don't have the original disks which it says I'm supposed to
insert.
