Here's a problem with Word 10.1.5 under Mac OS 10.2.8 that isn't a
problem with Word98 running in Classic.
I want to get a large number of PNG files into a Word document really
fast, all organized in a certain way.
The slow way would be to do this: For each image, Insert > Picture,
find the picture, then Format > Picture, resize it, ask it to flow
with the text, ad infinitum. Life is too short for that x100.
Back in the old days, I discovered a nice trick. Assuming that all the
image files are in the same folder, I make an html document (using a
text editor) and I name every image with <img src="aaa001.png"><img
src="aaa002.png"><img src="aaa003.png"> and so on. Put in the proper
html and body tags as is expected with HTML. Then, when you import
this into Word98, it knows exactly what to do. It handles it like a
really simple web page which you can then save as a Word document to
make the conversion complete. You can even put width and height fields
into the img tags and Word will respect them.
Now, in 10.2.8, follow the same steps for importing the HTML document,
and watch it fail. It won't bring in the figures properly, if at all.
Nope, no way, no how. Nada.
My kludge is to run Word 98 in classic AND Word X at the same time.
Use Word 98 to read the HTML and output .doc. Then open the .doc in
Word X. Fortunately, I have licences for both programs. Those of you
without '98, you may be out of luck.
So, genius pool, any ideas on a better way to pet this cat?
