Problem regarding the default indent measurements in rulers PP2000

Hello.

I have a problem regarding the default indent measurements in rulers PP2000.

A made a template in which I try to customize the indent levels in the
ruler. The indent levels are standard divided by 1,25 ruler-measurements. I
adjusted them in the master object Area for AutoLayouts by dragging every
indent to succeed every 1 ruler-measurement. All stays well until I switch to
bullets or numbering. Then the indent reset them selves again to 1,25
ruler-measurements. Even if I adjust them again and switch yet again to
bullets or numbering, the indents reset themselves. How can I keep the indent
levels set at my own settings in the normal text, numbering text en bullet
text?

make the adjustments in slide master view. View-Slide Master then save as a
template.

Hi Deborah.

I don;e think you understand the problem.
Please do the foloowing to understand what I mean.

Go into the master.
Put cursor in textbox.
Drag the indents.
Click on the bullets button.
The indents jump to the standard Microsoft setting (each indent
progressiveat 1,25 further then the other).
Drag indents again to desired setting.
Now click numbering button.
Indents jump again to standard Microsoft setting.
Drag indents again.
Un-click the numbering button.
Indents jump again to standard position.

This very strange behaviour. This way I cannot set my own indentlevels. I
want them to stay all at 1 ruler measurement after the other. This has to
stay the same if numbered, bulleted or standard text.

I hope this clarifys the problem.

This works in 2003, I don't have 2000 anymore. I have both 2002 and 2003 and
it worked in both of them. Type in the help box....change the default indent
settings for bullets and numbering on the slide master. It came back with
this....I tried it in both 2002 and 2003 and it worked but I can't say for
absolutely sure it will work on 2000. While I was still in Slide Master View
I clicked the bullet button on and off and it kept it's settings. I switched
to numbers and tried the same thing and it kept the custom setting I gave it.
I closed the Slide Master view saved it as "custom bullet" template. Then I
closed the entire program opened it again went to file-open-changed the file
type to template clicked on Custom Bullet and it maintained it's settings.
Like I said though I don't have 2000 any more just 2002 and 2003 hopefully it
will work for 2000 also.

"change the default indent settings for bullets and numbering on the slide
master"
If the ruler is not displayed, on the View menu, click Ruler.
On the slide, click the bulleted or numbered text you want to change.
If the text contains more than one level of bulleted or numbered items, the
ruler displays indent markers for each level.

First-line indent, showing the indent position of the bullet or number.

Left indent marker, showing the indent position of text in the list.

Do any of the following:
To change the position of the bullets or numbers, drag the first-line indent
marker.
To change the position of the text, drag the left indent marker. Drag just
the pointed top part of the marker (if you drag the bottom rectangle, both
indents move together).
To move the indents as a whole and keep the relationship between the bullet
or number and the left text indent as it is, drag the rectangular part on the
bottom of the left indent marker.
Repeat step 3 for each level of bullets and numbers and each level of text
you want to change.
Note To change these settings for all the slides in a presentation, make
the changes to the slide master (slide master: The slide that stores
information about the design template applied, including font styles,
placeholder sizes and positions, background design, and color schemes.). To
display the slide master, on the View menu, point to Master, and then click
Slide Master.

Then I closed Master Slide View and saved it as a template. Closed out of
both office ppts (2002-2003) reopened the template and it still held the
settings. I hope this works in 2000 also.

Ludo, you're correct. When you apply numbering instead of bullets, the
indents are not the same. It works that way in all versions.

In PPT 2002 and 2003, you can create a separate master slide with different
indent spacing to use for numbered slides. PPT 2000 doesn't support multiple
masters, though, so the easiest thing will be to apply numbering to a slide,
adjust it manually as necessary, and then copy that slide and use it
(replace the text) for additional numbered-bullet slides.

Sorry there's not a better way around this.

That's what I was afraid of...it wouldn't work in 2000. I knew you'd come
along and answer correctly and make sure I wasn't mistaken on at least that
part of my reply. I send lots of people to echo's voice and the other MVP
sites. I always bow to all of you MVP's wisdom.

No need to bow to us, Deborah Jean. Everyone here has something to
contribute.

I'm sitting here thinking this is really annoying behavior from PPT, and so
I should have put it in Fixing PPT Annoyances. But I don't think I did. One
for the next version, I guess! :)
