Problem rendering RTF files created by other programs

Yesterday my copy of MS Word began giving me "raw" rendering of RTF files created with another word processors (TextEdit, Nisus Writer Express). Instead of getting the formatted document, I get all the command lines interspersed with the text.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a work-around, or do I have to reinstall the program, or what?

Thanks, folks.

No, that's a design bug in the way Word calls the Finder.

If you ever use the "Recover text from any file" converter, that selection
"sticks" until you change it.

Start Word and use File>Open... To navigate to an RTF file. Choose "RTF" in
the Files of Type box, then OK.

The document should open with its formatting, and you will be OK from there.

"Reinstalling" rarely fixes anything on a Mac, but may possibly make your
problem worse :)

Cheers

Thank you, John. I wasn't even aware I had the "Recover text" option selected (duh!!). I appreciate your help and your patience.

Cheers,
Andrew.
