Hi everyone,

I have a problem with one of the normal.dot files in our network. Our
secretary uses the daily and it is working. Or at leat it was working
perfectly untill 02-14-05.

But since then if the wants to enter a new auto-text (in the German
version, maybe this function is called differently in English
versions) Word doesn't save the changes to the normal.dot template.

So far I tried the repair option from the office software, I checked
the rights corresponding to the file and tried to save it locally on
the computer, without any effect.

Do you have any idea, what else I could tried, to get the template
working again?

Thanks a lot,

Thorsten

Have you recently install Acrobat v7 or anything else that places an add-in
into Office?

It is an Adobe problem.

Previous versions of Adobe Acrobat forced Word to save normal.dot everytime
it closed. Adobe's work around is to mark the normal template as clean - a
worse solution because now you cannot save any changes at all.

If you remove the Adobe add-ins from the Word Start-up folder, it will stop
this idiotic behaviour. However, you will have to use File, Print and select
Acrobat to create your PDFs.

: Yes, I've installed Acrobat Pro 7 a couple of days later. I already
: found some people with the same problem in the Adobe Forum:

:
: But they don't have a "real" solution. On the Microsoft page, I

Other options are to use Shift+File/Close All or Save All to force Word to
save Normal.dot or to remove PDFMaker.dot from the Startup folder but leave
it available as an add-in that can be loaded as needed.

Thanks for your solutions, but I don't know how to
remove the Adobe add-ins from the Word Start-up folder

or to
remove PDFMaker.dot from the Startup folder but leave it available as an add-in that can be loaded as needed

Could you help me with this, please?

Greetings,

Evidently this is no longer possible, since Adobe has gone to a COM add-in,
and there is no .dot add-in in the Startup folder.

Well, I was looking for that *.dot file and couldn't find it. But if
Adobe changed this... Thank you anyway, I think I just have to wait
for an Acrobat patch!

This was posted in the NG a couple of days ago:

Acrobat 7 uses a new method for making the PDFMaker available to Office
apps. You don't need to uninstall Acrobat itself but you do need to edit the
Windows registry.

You need to find the key

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins\PDFMaker.OfficeAddin]

and change the subkey called "LoadBehavior" from a value of 3 to 0.
