I see a couple of other posts that imply this should work and I don't see any
difference between what's posted and what I'm doing. Hopefully, there's
another set of eyes out there that can help me see my folly
We have a single server installation of ProjectServer 2003 with SP1.
Project Professional 2003 is at SP2. Using a stand alone mpp file storing
effective dates in a single rate table and multiple rate tables per a single
resource both save just fine. However, when the same entries are entered for
a resource in the enterprise resource pool, the only rate saved is the latest
rate from rate table A.
Steps to reproduce problem with multiple labor rates:
First what works …
1. Launch Project Professional - Work Offline for My Computer.
2. Select Resource Sheet View
3. Type in a name for a new resource such as TestResource
4. Right click on the name, select Resource Information … from the menu
5. Select Costs tab
6. In the grid for Rate Table A:
a. Change the standard rate on the first line to a non-zero value – like 10
b. On the next line set effective date to today’s date and standard rate to
something different than the first line – like 15
7. Select the grid tab for rate table B.
a. Change the standard rate on the first line to a non-zero value different
from rate table A – like 20
b. On the next line set effective date to today’s date and standard rate to
something different than the first line and different from rate table A –
like 25
8. Select OK to save the labor rate changes for your resource
9. Select File -> Save As to save your local project to an mpp file. I used
the name “RateTableTest.mppâ€
10. Exit all the way out of Project Professional
11. Launch Project Professional - Work Offline for My Computer.
12. Open the local project mpp file you just saved and verify that the rate
table changes you entered above are there.
13. Everything is as expected to this point.
14. Exit all the way out of Project Professional
Now what does NOT work … for me anyway …
1. Launch Project Professional and connect to ProjectServer using an account
that has Administrator permissions. I used the “Administrator†account
2. Tools -> Enterprise Options -> Open Enterprise Resource Pool …
3. Select a resource and open it for editing ( I picked myself)
4. Select Resource Sheet View
5. Right click on the name, select Resource Information … from the menu
6. Select Costs tab
7. In the grid for Rate Table A:
a. Change the standard rate on the first line to a non-zero value – like 10
b. On the next line set effective date to today’s date and standard rate to
something different than the first line – like 15
8. Select the grid tab for rate table B.

something different than the first line and different from rate table A –

9. Select OK to save the labor rate changes for your resource
10. File -> Save to save your changes
11. File -> Close to check-in the Enterprise Resource Pool
12. File -> Exit to exit all the way out of Project Professional
13. Launch Project Professional and connect to ProjectServer using an
account that may or may not have Administrator permissions. I used my NT
domain Account which happens to be in the Project Server Administrators group.
14. Select Resource Sheet View
15. Tools -> Build Team From Enterprise … Filter as you see fit – you are
going to be selecting the resource for which you just added the rate
information. ( In my case it was … me)
16. Select the resource you changed from the list on the left and click Add
to put them on the project team
17. Select OK
18. Right click on the name, select Resource Information … from the menu
19. Select Costs tab
20. Everything entered before is GONE except for the most recent hourly rate
for (the default) rate table A! (In my case, this is $15/hr)
21. Since I logged in with an account with administrator permissions, I can
open the enterprise resource pool …
a. Tools -> Enterprise Options -> Open Enterprise Resource Pool …
b. Select the modified resource and open it for editing ( I picked myself)
c. Select Resource Sheet View
d. Right click on the name, select Resource Information … from the menu
e. Select Costs tab
f. (Same as the regular project) Everything entered before is GONE except
for the most recent hourly rate for (the default) rate table A. (In my case,
this is $15/hr)
22. File -> Exit. Select “NO†to saving changes when prompted.
There are no entries in the operating system event logs or the SQL server log.
