Problem selecting map when opening file in Word2000

Hi,

When I want to open a file and I click File - Open, I get the File
Open dialog box.
When I want to change the directory, I click the Look-In list and now
Word hangs (this does not happen when i click the yellow One Level Up
icon to the right of the Look-In list).


The cursor changes to an hourglass, and nothing else happens.

After a wait I close Word with CTRL-ALT-DEL. ('This Program is not
Responding'). Pressing 'Activate' will not help at all.

Until today everything worked fine.

I don't remember doing anything special that could have triggered this
problem.

How can I overcome this problem without having to install MS-Word all
over again?
