Problem sending e-mails with large attachments

As of late, I am having problems sending out e-mails with large (say, 3MB)
attachments from my Outlook 2003 software.

Sometimes, these emails do not go out at all, and remain in the Outbox after
the Send/Receive operation is completed. Other times, the e-mail remains in
the Outbox after several Send/Receive attempts, as if the send operation were
a failure; and yet, the recipient does receive the email several times (as
many as the Send/Receive operation has taken place.) The email is going out,
but Outlook acts af it it isn't.

I thought this might be a problem with my internet broadband connection, but
it is not. If I send the exact same email with the large attachment from a
webmail-hosting website, in my same computer, the email does go through and
is received by the recipient.

I wonder if there is any setting in Outlook 2003 that is preventing emails
above a certain size from going out.

The outgoing email accounts affected are all POP/SMTP.

I don't understand. Are you saying that I should uninstall my Trend Micro
Internet Security, reboot the computer, and then send/receive emails without
anti-virus protection in my PC? I am afraid that would be suicidal... Is
there any other solution for this problem?

No its not suicidal, with the AV uninstalled, you can if you wish reinstall
the AV without the Outlook intergration.
Any nasties would be picked up by the AV real time scanner
Intergrated AV with outlook frequently causes problems, and as such if you
wish to identify identify the problem you have to start by uninstalling the
AV to remove the intergration
(Disabling the intergration in your AV options, wont neccessarily work)

I don't understand this busines of "Outlook integration." I have Outolook
2003 and Trend Micro Internet Security 2008. They are independent and
separate from each other. In Trend Micro, the Spam Email Filter is, and has
always been, set to "OFF." There is no "presence" of Trend Micro in my
Outlook. What is the meaning of "Outlook intengration?" As far as I can see,
I can uninstall and reinstall Trend Micro but, what difference is that going
to make?

Most AV programs have a process (and install it by default) to scan incoming
and outgoing messages for viruses. It is separate from the antispam features
some protection suites also have. If in Outlook you click
Tools>Options>Other>Advanced Options and both COM Add-Ins and Add-In Manager,
what do you see?

COM ADD-Ins:
Anagram Add-In for Outlook (added after this problem surfaced.)
iTunes Outlook Add-In
Outlook Backup Add-In
TMAS Add-In (only add-in unchecked)

ADD-IN Manager:
Outlook Connector Extension
MPN Outlook extension
Exchange Extension Property Pages
Fax Server Extension

(all checked)
