Problem sending mail in OL 2007

I am using Outlook 2007 with an IMAP account. I work at a university and am
connected to the wired network. I have my IMAP account set up to
authenticate using the same information that I log on to the incoming mail
server with. Upon turning on my machine and using Outlook I don't have any
problems. Sending and receiving mail is not an issue. However, as time goes
by, I am ultimately unable to send any email and get the following error
message:

0x80042109

I have Symantec Corporate Edition 10.1.6 and have disabled the Internet
Email function. I've also verified that Outlook is listed as an exception in
the Windows Firewall. I can even ping the outoing server from my machine. I
have no idea how to fix this problem. I've tried deleting and recreating the
IMAP account to no avail. One thing I've noticed is that this problem seems
to occur after I've gone away from the machine for a while and have woken it
up. I sometimes have to reboot three or four times a day to resolve the
sending mail problem. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone would please
provide some insight into the problem. Thank you.
