PRoblem showing a looping video

I have read several of the posts on videos in websites. However, I still have
a problem understanding why a simple video will not work in a website. I have
a couple of short videos that I would like to have on my website and set so
when the visitor clicks on the video starts and loops just as a slideshow
automatically starts when the visitor clicks on. The videos are up to 7MB in
size and are .avi format.

When I preview in browser, the videos work fine - just the way I would like
to have them function. But on the web they do not appear.

I would appreciate another visit to this subject and any guidance please.

Many thanks. Norm.

Without a URL, it is hard to diagnose the problem. One thing which does say
'fix me' is the file size: 7mb is a little big, and would take near 20
minutes to download on dial up

Hi Mike,

Many thanks for your advice - I thought 7mb a bit large. My "testing"
website is: www.nmh.ca and click on new_page_1. The video is placed at the
top left. As you can see, it is my totally learning site with a lot of
practice stuff. You will see I am a novice!

Cheers, Norm.

Everyone was a novice at one time or another, and there are alot of things I
learned as I made mistakes, and I have play sites where I try new things out
also.

In regards to that filesize issue, I would recommend that you visit the MS
website for Windows Media Encoder. This is a free application which you can
use to compress that AVI file down to a size that is better for the web. The
website is
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx

The other thing I will let you know about is how you have that video
rendering on the page. The tool that you used in FP to place it there
created code which worked with a specialized image tag that MS made up years
ago, and no longer supports- non IE browsers never supported 'dynamic
images' either. I would recommend looking to find a copy of the Windows
Media Player add-in for FrontPage.

Wow - thanks so much for the great advice, Mike. I shall have a go with it in
a couple of days. Here in Canada we are getting ready for our festivities on
July 1. Yours will come on the 4th.

Much obliged. Norm.

Norm... looking at that page, now of the images called from new-page-1 seem
to be on the server. I was going to give you a little present of encoding
the video and giving you new page code.

In addition, there are many coding errors on the page, I would recommend
going to the www.w3c.org website and find the validators for html coding.

Last thing, get rid of the email address link ASAP- it is a magnet for
Spammage.

Thanks, Mike for the hint on the e-mail. Since this is my learning/test page,
I erroneously never thought of spammers and others - thinking no one knows
about this page - quite wrong! I have taken it out.

I'll use the validator to look over the HTML - thanks. Thanks also for any
code for the video. Any help will sure be most welcome.

Norm.

Nobody may know about the page, but now that it has been posted here it is
public knowledge

A couple of years ago I wrote a script for someone and had my email in it in
case he needed help. After a couple of years he got a new server and needed
the script tweaked. He posted the script here and that address has been
garbage ever since
