Problem typing Quotation Marks

D

Debbie

When I type a quotation mark in Word, nothing is displayed until I hit
the next letter in the quote.

Also, when I type certain letters after the quotation mark I get unusual
results. For example, when I type <quotation mark> then <a> I end
up with the letter "a" with an umlaut.

Smart quotes are turned off. I did use a Spanish language setting
briefly around the time this problem started but the language is now
set for English-US.

Word just started doing this...PLEASE help me revert to my original
settings where it simply displays what I type!

Check the control panel REGIONAL SETTINGS to make sure that they agree with
what you have under Word's Language setting.

The only other time that I, personally, have seen this is when the keyboard
was on its last legs.

Good luck

As Ron suggests, you've almost certainly got an international keyboard
layout selected. This causes certain keys to become "dead keys" that insert
accents over the next character typed.
