problem upgrading note flags

C

chiefplt

I just installed ON 2007 Beta, with the technical refresh. I also installed
WDS 3.0 with the UI. I then attempted to convert my previous notebook from
2003 to the new system. The entire notebook is around 1 GB. The conversion
seemed to work fine for most things, except my note flags. I use 5-6 custom
note flags in 2003 and all of those didn't get converted. When I do the note
flag summary I see all of my notes from the custom ones I created in 2003
showing up as "Undefined". I also have several notes that seem to have
corrupt names of long garbled characters - 30+ characters including wingdings
and all sorts of bizarre characters.

Is there a known problem for note flag upgrade? I had tried ON2007 before
B2TR came out and saw something similar, but I was hoping it would work
better after B2TR.

Any help would be appreciated...

You should give it some time. WDS needs to index your notebook first
before the flags summary page works. Leave OneNote open over night and
see how it works in the morning.

I've let WDS run overnight twice now and I'm still having the problem. When I
try to go to the tags summary page, it still has almost all of my tags named
as "Undefined" and several long garbled tag names. It's also taking a very
long time to create the tag summary page - longer than 5 minutes. Shouldn't
it be very quick once WDS has created the index?

Thanks...

Another update - even when I open up my ON 2003 files as read-only and look
at the note flags on a single page, they show up as "Undefined."

How are customized note flags imported into 2007? Is there a step I'm
missing? Could something I'm doing in the installation process be messing it
up?

You didn't let OneNote 2007 upgrade your notes to the 2007 format?
Did you try and add one of those custom note flags to 2007 and see if it
recognizes and finds it then?

I did let ON 2007 upgrade my notes, but manually (by clicking in the bar on
the top of the page) rather than immediately when ON was started. Since I had
this problem I went back and opened up the 2003 page to see if it was
correctly recognizing the custom note flags there and it wasn't - they all
show up as "Undefined."

This is a reproducible case for me too. If I create a new page in 2003, add
a custom note, then open up that same page in 2007, upgrade it to 2007
format, that note appears as "Undefined" instead of whatever custom name I've
given it.

Is there a place I can log a bug for this? I'd be happy to provide
screenshots or whatever else is necessary.

I actually reported the same fault in the last beta version to connect.

https://connect.microsoft.com/onenote/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=79541

I'm a bit amazed this hasn't been fixed in the B2TR. My expectation is this
will need a lot of testing to get it right, so not to release an update now
is running a risk with the final build.

The trick is to actually sign up for the OneNote Connection.

It doesn't look like that link in my last post worked.
If you go to connect
http://connect.microsoft.com/onenote
Search feedback for
Noteflags do not import correctly from Onenote 2003 to Beta 2 2007
that should enable you to find the original bug report (filed on the 24th
May...)

It has Feedback ID 79541

There won't be any update before the final build.
I took a look at your Connect feedback. You should follow the steps
provided by MS as comment and submit those files. Also, indicate that
you still have the same issue with B2TR.
