Problem upgrading to Office 2004

Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade a Powerbook from Office v.X to Office 2004. It
installed without any problems, but when I try to start any of the
applications, the window comes up to accept the license agreement, and I
accept it and then click Next, the application just closes.

The old version still works properly.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Thank you.

I see that a couple other people have reported these symptoms in the last
couple of months, but neither reported a solution.

The machine is a Powerbook Ti, running 10.4.2, with plenty of disk space,
and 1Gb RAM. Office 2004 is the Student/Teacher edition, and I've
successfully installed in on two other Macs in the household. Yes, I'm
logged on with Admin privilege when I install it. All the files seem to be
there, but I get exactly what others have reported: The license screen, and
the little "agreement" pop-up window. I agree to the license, click Next in
the main window, and the application just closes.

I've tried repairing permissions. I have not removed v.X, as I did not have
to on the other machines. I'm glad I didn't, since if it were gone, and
2004 didn't work, I'd have one angry young lady to deal with. ;-)

Thanks for any help.

Totally random guess, since there's clearly nothing wrong with the CD--

Maybe you are accidentally reusing a license number *and* the laptop is
connected to the network, and so it quits as an illegal install.

Try it totally unnetworked, maybe?

That could be it. I couldn't remember which license keys I had already used
when I installed it. I'll turn off its WiFi and try starting the
applications. If it works, then I'll have to read about changing the
license key.

Thank you for your reply.
