Glad I found your forum! I hope you'll help me with a few remaining issues
after having done some grunt work/research already. COX no longer supports FP
extensions eff 11/09/06 and any discrepancies resulting from it "need to be
addressed with Microsoft", as they "don't support Microsoft products".
Here's how I have been using COX web space in a nutshell: Until the change,
I used 4 web spaces (10 MB ea) under our main COX account to host pictures
for auction listings. I don't have a web site and am simply using the free
storage vs. paying extra for an image host. I used to have quick and easy
access to these web spaces because I had them added as a regular network
place and could manage the files through there, which I no longer can after
the COX change. Not sure if this has anything to do with the extensions or
whether I just need to make adjustments now. When entering the username in
the "Add Network Place Wizard", it is being resolved to
"members.cox.net\username" and does not authenticate me even though the
password is entered correctly. When I add the place as an ftp site instead,
I can add it, but a single account is then the default, which is not
desirable in my case. I need to be able to flip-flop regarding images and
their publishing destinations.
Here is what I used to do and may not be up to snuff, but it's simple and
always worked like a charm for me: I have a personal template for the
auction write-up which I modify with descriptions offline within one of the
webs. I insert the images into the template by pulling up the network place
and that would already bring in the address of the pics perfectly. (No pizza
boxes.) Then I copied and pasted the entire FrontPage code into the auction
description portion (ebay). When I ran out of space on one account, I would
just use one of my other web spaces and publish the images to that one by
picking it from my network places list. Once the auctions were done, I
cleaned up the spaces accordingly to free up new space.
Now, I have to use a slower FTP to upload the pics, which I did
successfully, but I am not too thrilled about COX right now. I also ended up
upgrading to FP 2003 yesterday, because it didn't have the "View/Remote Web
Site" option that COX refers to in their instructions. (They did not even
state which FP version their article referred to and tech support was unable
to tell me. Now, when I publish a web, it always gives me the same web space
to publish to no matter which web I have open on my end. I don't seem to find
a way to flush out the setting and change it to a different account. I don't
get the prompt with username/password. Do I have to delete the ftp location
and re-add it every time now? Probably an easy, no-brainer fix for you pros…
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. Sorry about the
lengthy post.
