I like to use search folders to display messages sent to and from individual
e-mail addresses as well as multiple people from the same company (in the
form of @domain.ext for example).
I am running into a problem with this due to the way that Outlook 2003
displays addresses in the “From†and “To†fields of messages. I typically
define contact entries for people that I routinely communicate with, and I
always set the “Display as†field to show the following form…
First_name last_name ([email protected])
For example:
John Smith (john.smith@example_domain.com)
Unfortunately, when a message is sent (or received for that matter), it does
not always show up addressed like this. Some messages sent to people defined
in my address book as detailed above show up as having only the name “John
Smith†in the displayed “To†field.
As a result, I cannot seem to find a search folder criteria that actually
uses the real e-mail address or domain rather than the displayed field
information. Additionally, even when I do send a message that seems to
display properly, a reply from that person may come back with an alternate
“From†displayed address rather than listing the real e-mail address in the
“From†field; this causes the search folder to fail.
Question – is there any search criteria that can be used to actually find
messages sent to or from (or both) an actual e-mail address or domain that
ignores the displayed “To†and “From†fields?
I would like to find a way to define search folders as follows…
* Any message sent to a given address (or domain such as “@domain.extâ€)
* Any message received from a given address (or domain such as “@domain.extâ€)
* Any message sent to or received from a given address (or domain such as
“@domain.extâ€)
Thanks
