Hello RT,
First, *never* feel bad about being too long in your explanation! Problems
occur when people don't describe the situation in enough detail, so that
several scenarios can be imagined by whoever is thinking of an answer,
making it more likely that a wrong answer will be given -- and that can be
very time-consuming when trying to frame an answer. So you have certainly
done the right thing!
Normal view makes a number of "sacrifices" in the interests of speedier
responses -- for example in Normal view pagination only occurs when Word
thinks it's necessary; in Page Layout view it's continuous. Page Layout
view shows fairly accurately what the doc will look like when printed, and
Print Preview is the most accurate, within one pixel.
So it occurs to me that if you have tabbed by hitting the tab key several
times, there could in some circumstances be slight differences between
Normal and Page Layout view / actually printing.
If the above is the case, the solution (for several other reasons too) is to
use only one tab rather than several to move text across and to assign a
specific value to the tab(s), using the ruler. If you use a particular value
for where this one tab is placed, it saves time to create a style that has
that value within its formatting.
But if this is a one-off document and you're unlikely to meet the problem
again, just prepare it in Page Layout view, as you mention.
There are some screenshot examples that illustrate the problem of multiple
default tabs (albeit usually seen when a document created using multiple
tabs goes to another computer), and an explanation of the above solution and
several other related ones, in "Bend Word to your Will", downloadable free
at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/WordMac/Bend/BendWord.htm -- see Appendix
A: The main ³minimum maintenance² features of my documents. There are other
techniques you can use to minimize this sort of problem. The notes also
contain a step-by-step guide to styles if you aren't too familiar with them.
If I'm barking up the wrong tree on this, please post back telling us what
font you are using and whether you are actually using multiple tabs. (If my
solution does work, your feedback here, in due course, will help as well.)

* WAIT FOR CONSIDERED ADVICE: If you post a question, keep re-visiting the
newsgroup for several days after the first response comes in. Sometimes it
takes a few responses before the best or complete solution is proposed;
sometimes you'll be asked for further information so that a better answer
can be provided. Good tips about getting the best out of posting are at
