Problem when copying formulas in Excel 2003

BHi,
OK here is what happens;
I enter the values 1 in A1, 2 in A2, 3 in A3;
Then the value 1 in B1-B3
In C1 I enter the formual A1*B1 answer 1, this is OK.
I then copy C1 to C2 and C3 and get the erroneous result 1 in both C2 and C3.
I look at the formula for C2 and it shows ;
A2*B2 the correct answer should be 2, what gives? I am very puzzled

Make sure that the calculation mode is set to automatic...

Excel > Preferences > Calculation > Automatic

Thank you kindly, that fixed it. For the record, since I didn't change this,
is there any way Excel can reset itself to manual?
But anyway woo hoo, many hours work has beed saved,
