Problem with Access (Office XP 2002) registry error

I've had a number of glitches with this program which I cannot seem to change
by either trying to repair or uninstall/reinstalling the software.

- When I try to import a file into Access the "Files of type" shows
"Registry Error". If I then try and import a file Access simply pulls the
file straight into the DB without allowing me to use the import wizard.

- When I set up a new Query, again Access refuses to allow me to use a wizard.

I have used the same CD to install Office on my notebook PC without any
problems, so I know that the CD itself is OK.

How can I fix this problem ?
