Problem with Access97 and 2003 on the same machine

Hi,

I have a problem at with Access97 and 2003 running on the same
machine.
Both applications open and work normally, except that within Access
2003, when I open a database and select - file - get external data -
Import, and then pick a file to import (e.g. Excel spreadsheet) Access
2003 crashes and displays the "program encountered a problem error"
with the options to send to microsoft or don't send. The same function
works fine within Access 97.
If I uninstall Access 97 the functionality works fine within Access
2003.

I have both installations in completely separate locations,

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i have A97 and A2003 installed on the same hard drive, and am able to import
files in both versions with no problem. i have A2003 running as part of
Office Pro 2003, on C:\ as a primary partition, and i installed A97 on a
separate logical partition; i don't know if that's what made the difference,
but you might try it.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately due to the build on the PC's where
I am having this problem I don't have the option of installing
applications on more than one logical drive.

I am open to any more ideas.

Thanks

Have you tried reinstalling or a repair install on Access 2003? There is
nothing particular about having the two versions installed that should cause
this problem. Many developers have 3 or 4 versions of Access on the same box.

I think I have it cracked now. Access 97 was overwriting a file named
ACCWIZ.DLL which runs all the Access wizards. When I copy in the Access
2003 version of the file and register it with regsvr32, both versions
are able to run import wizard etc.

Many thanks for all your help

Andy
