Problem with Acrobat 7

I had a major crash in Microsoft Word. When I restarted Word I got a message
saying that some plug ins had been disabled. I can longer create a pdf inside
of word, not do I have the tool bar. The three add-on menu items are still
there, but do not work to convert a document.

I have tried repairing acrobat (v7). No luck
I tried uninstalling acrobat (the three menu items (acrobat Comments, Adobe
PDF and Adobe PDF) are still there after the uninstall completes. I
re-installed but no luck.
I uninstalled Acrobat, repaired Word, reinstalled Acrobat - no luck.
I uninstalled acrobat, uninstalled word, re-installed word, reinstalled
acrobat - no luck
I uninstalled acrobat, uninstalled Microsoft office (2003), reinstalled
microsoft office, started word and noticed that the three menu items are
still there even though Acrobat is not installed. Installed acrobat - no
luck.

Other than reformatting the drive (not something I want to do), I am at a
loss as to what to try. I checked the registry after uninstalling acrobat and
there appears to be many entries still in the registry, but I am not willing
to delete those without knowing the ramifications.

If I try to create a pdf document from a word document from the Acrobat
professional program, I get the following error message:

Word cannot save this file because it is already open elsewhere.
(C:\...\STARTUP\LLExpolorer.dot) The document I want to convert is not open
and I do not know what this .dot file does (I know it is a template for
something - but not my document). It then states that some files are missing
and would I like to run acrobat in repair mode. I do this and it requires a
reboot, but I get the same messages next time.

I tried to re-enable the add-in in Word, but then word will not start and I
get a Visual C++ Runtime Error that says Program: C;\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE
abnormal program termination

Can anyone make some informed suggestions as to how to get acrobat running
again in word? I need this feature.

thanks

Thak you. I worked through the document and found that the normal.dot file
had been corrupted in the crash. All is well again
