I have an XP pro w/sp2 with all updates and outlook 2007 using a POP email
account with all updates. No antivirus. Whenever I send an email with image
attachments (*.jpg) the recipients cannot view them unless they are using
some version of outlook. Here’s the testing I’ve done.
Sent email with jpg attachments from aforementioned PC to 2 different pc’s–
in html and plain and rich text formats and get the following:
1st Receiving PC has vista business w/all updates and outlook 2007 Norton
10.2 disabled:
I can view jpg in outlook 2007 and can save to desktop and view with windows
photo gallery or any other program. If I open the email with yahoo or a
proprietary web client instead of outlook 2007 I cannot view the attachments.
They are there, but with a red "x". If I save it to the computer and open it
with windows photo gallery no go. If I open with Photoshop it works!
2nd receiving pc has windows XP pro sp2 w/all updates and outlook 2003
Norton 10.2 disabled:
I can view the jpg in outlook 2003 and can save it to the desktop and view
it with any program. . If I open the email with yahoo or a proprietary web
client instead of outlook 2007 I cannot view the attachments. They are there,
but with a red "x". If I save it to the computer and open it with windows
photo gallery no go. If I open with Photoshop it works!
Ready for the real kicker?!?! This is why I am certain it is a
setting/problem with outlook 2007.
Once I’ve verified that on both computers the jpg will not open in yahoo or
proprietary web client I forward the email back to PC1 and PC2 and open with
outlook. And I can view the image. So in essence, when I am trying to view it
in yahoo the image is really not “bad†or “corruptâ€.
As you can see I’ve done a lot of testing to pinpoint the problem. There has
to be something that ties into a setting in outlook 2007
Thank in advance.
