Problem with Colon in Word2000 SP-3

I suddenly got a problem in some Word files. As I try to type a colon
:)).

I get a non-breaking space inserted between the word and the colon, see
below.

I write Test:
Word displays Test :

This is a cut directly from Word.

Is there a setting somewhere that could insert this deliberately?

If so - can it be switched off?

You might want to try your auto correct settings.
John

Can that be document sensitive? Because it only happens in some
documents, not all!

well it won't correct it in the docs where it doesn't happen. isn't that so?

I checked all the Auto Correct settings, there are absolutely nothing
there that could trigger an extra non breaking space to be added after I
write a colon :)), so there must be elswhere, but where?

which font are you using when this happens?
does it happen with all fonts?

Right! I always use Arial. This is the selected standard font i use in
all documents. And indeed in those with the colon plus non-breaking
space too.

then if the problem only relates to one font .. have you tried using
that font in other programs, see if the problem occurs? tried reloading
the font?

Just checked changing font - no change at all, the problem persists.
