I have one com addin which works with outlook 2000/2002/2003. One can see
its icon in standard tool bar. My problem is, on mouse over, the icon get
distorted in outlook 2002. This is not the case with outlook 2000 and 2003.

So nobody replied.....

But fortunately I got the solution and its bit strange. Here it goes.

Outlook 2002 do not support the toolbar bitmaps with 256 colors or higher(24
bit). If the bitmap used is of 16 color bitmap everything goes fine.

I don't know if that's the sole solution and that's why I am putting my
findings again here so that if someone still knows anything, he may reply
and make it more clear.

All versions of Office from Office 2000 and later support the same
specifications for toolbar buttons: 32x32x256 color BMP files.

If this is true, then why there's problem with the image with 256 colors( as
i told before, it get distorted on mouse over in outlook2002).
Please let me know if there is any satisfactory analysis.

I have no idea. I use the same icons on all versions of Outlook from 2000 to
2003 and don't have any problems. Try some different icons and see if the
problem reproduces with all of them. Also try the icons on a different
machine with Outlook 2002 installed, maybe there's a display driver problem
on that specific Outlook 2002 machine.

Actaully, the problem has been reported by someone else. and it is
reproduced on other machines too. Also, I tried to use some other image and
the problem still persists. Interestingly, if I change the new image to 16
color bitmap, then it renders properly on mouse over.
So we are still short of solution or say proper explaination.
