Problem with copy & past size n Publisher 2003

Hi!
Using Publisher 2000 I can past an image into an other image mantaining
the same size.
For example if I have a rectangular image of size 10 x 5 I can past an
other image into this one..that will be automatically resize into 10 x
5.

Using Publisher 2003 instead I cannot do this thing. If I past an image
into an other, the image is not automatically resized and it's pasted
with it's original size...that's not what I want :(
What can I do?
Thanks a lot, I hope someone can help me:(
Sorry for my bad english
Regards
RIC

Are you asking about a picture frame?

Publisher 2003 keeps the aspect when a picture is inserted into a picture frame,
the same as 2000.
I can't "paste" an image into another image.

Create a one cell table. Fill the cell with your picture. The picture will be
distorted.

Using Publisher 2000 you can do it!
If I create a picture frame and I paste an image, the image is distorted
to gain the aspect of the picture frame, this is good.
BUT if I copy an other Image (by different aspect) and I paste it into
the previous Image in the picture frame, this will be not resized!

For example:

Picture frame = 5 x 5
Image1 = 5 x 7
Image2 = 5 x 10

If I create a Picture Frame and I paste Image1, Image1 will be resized
to 5 x 5. If I paste Image2 INTO Image1 (that is inside Picture Frame)
it's not automatically resized to 5 x 5...it's still is 5 x 10 (the
original size). Using Publisher 2000 Image2 is resized to 5 x 5...
Using Publisher 2000 I can paste Image1 (without create a Picture Frame)
and if I paste INSIDE IT a Image2..or a Image3 etc, i've always the same
aspect as Image1, that was good and I appreciate it. Using Publisher
2003 it's not the same :\

That's the problem :\

Thanks

RIC,

My only advice would be to paste your images without the pre-created frame. Or
do your resizing in an editing program to minimize distortion.

Using Publisher 2000 I can paste image into "other" images, keeping the
same aspect of the first one...without creating che frame...that's good.
I cannot do this same thing using Publisher 2003 :(
I'll roll back to Publisher 2000 :\

I think this came along with the removal of the "Change the picture to
fit the frame" option, to discourage ugly distorted images. Forcing
images to take on the aspect ratio of your placeholder is *not* good.

fit the frame" option, to discourage ugly distorted images. Forcing

I read something written by you about the same argument...

"The difference in 2002 (or possibly earlier) is that the pasted picture
gets its own frame, rather than going into the selected frame.
Change the picture to fit the frame was *evil* in my opinion. It
encouraged the destruction of aspect ratios, producing the most butt-
ugly publications."

Well, WHY Microsoft has to decide about the "uglyness" of my
publications???

I've 2 images "placeholder" with their aspect, the only thing I want is
to be able to replace this 2 images with other 2 images, with the
automatic resizing available in Publisher 2000...mantaining the same
aspect, nevermind if there is a distorted image, this has not to be a
Microsoft's problem.

BTW, is there a workaround to activate che "change the picture to fit
the frame" option or have I to rollback? :\

[PS: I imagined to gain brand NEW features with the new Publisher
2003..Who could suppose that the only feature I loved would be
removed??]

Thanks a lot for your patience

Because users perpetually made the wrong decisions and Publisher only
encouraged this?

I don't know the reasons behind the change (I'm not a program manager),
only that it was a good thing.
I've 2 images "placeholder" with their aspect, the only thing I want is
to be able to replace this 2 images with other 2 images, with the
automatic resizing available in Publisher 2000...mantaining the same

Putting a landscape photo into a portrait frame (or vice-versa) is
always a bad idea, unless you're looking to illustrate stretching
(sufficiently rare that it should be done manually). Pasting in pictures
is also bad practise. Right-click > Change Picture > From File will
allow importion of a picture from a different file into the same frame,
adjusting the aspect ratio to fit the new picture. If the aspect ratios
are close, then the frame will not change size much. Subtle cropping and
sometimes *slight* scaling is the best way to accomplish fitting a
slightly different size. Publisher isn't smart enough to do this properly.
BTW, is there a workaround to activate che "change the picture to fit
the frame" option or have I to rollback? :\

No, this option is not available in Publisher 2002 and later.
