Problem with Database Connectivity

Rolly Perreaux

Hi Meena,

A couple of quick questions
1. Was Project Server working prior to this error?
2. Can you successfully log into Project Web Access as Administrator?
3. Are you using a Windows Authenticated account or Project Server
Authenticated account?

Can you provide additional information on your infrastructure
configuration?

Let us know when you have a chance.

Project Server was working in a fine manner before I encounted this error.
But if I remember rightly, when my Project Server and PWA was working
finely, I remember getting a message

"The File cannot be opened
Check that the filename and path are correct
Check that the file format is recognised by the project.
Project files saved in a version earlier than MS Project 98 cannot be
opened.
If your file is from an earlier version, open it in that version, click
Save As, and Save it in MPX format. Open the MPX file in the current version
of the project. When you use this method data is imported but formatting is
lost."

I got this message when I attempted to save the ResPool consequently for the
second time. Saving for the first time does not give any error.
But I did not use any version of Project other than 2003.
Other than this I did not get any errors.

When I posted this query I was able to connect successfully to Project
Server log in successfully as any User.
But now I am neither able to connect to Project Server nor log in an as any
User.

I was using Mixed mode of Authentication (Both Project Server & Windows).

What infm do U need on Infrastructure Configuration?

Regards
Meena

We had installed MS Project 2003 and it is working with SQL Server 2005.
It was working fine.
Now I am able to open my Projects from MS Project Professional but from PWA
I am not able to view my tasks or projects or even the user accounts
created.
When I was trying to trace out the problem, I faced the following error
message.

" You are attempting to connect to MS Project Central 2000 or MS Project
Serever 2002 Database. Either upgrade that Database to use with Project
Server 2003 or connect with a different Database"

How do I solve this problem?

Regards
Meena

Hi Meena,

I'm looking specifically for how your server(s) are working together?
Have you implemented a single server or multi-server deployment
How are these servers communicating with each other?
Are you in an Active Directory domain?
Are all the servers in a single domain?

Basically I want you to paint a picture how your network works and how
your servers are configured

Any additional info would be great
Many thanks in advance

We have implemented Project Server in a Single server deployment.
My SQL Server, MS Project Server and Project Professional are in a single
Server.
This Server is remotely accessed by other employees also.
We are in Active Directory domain.
Any other information required?
I would be happy to provide you the necessary information.

Hi Meena,

Do you have Edit Site tool installed?

Project Server 2003: EditSite Tool
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=6DC2C83E-54E1-
40A9-9BB8-2DD293226B6F&displaylang=en

Install and run the tool on Project Server
When you have the tool open, click Test and give us the results.

I have a theory to what's happening, but I'd like find out your results
first before trying anything.

Thanks!
