problem with display of categories in Calendar

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel When I assign a category to a new event with a specific time (as opposed to an "all day" event), the only thing that changes is the color of the font. There is no "box" of color such as that shown in the video on "how to add events to categories." I am viewing the calendar in the monthly mode. The "all day" events appear in a brightly colored box depending on the category. But the "timed" events (which are clearly the majority) are practically impossible to see. Light yellow on a white background for example. Please help!

I've used Microsoft Outlook for years with my PC. But I've recently switched to a MAC with Snow Leopard. All I'd like to have is the same type of color display for the categories function that I used to have when using Labels in Outlook.

Is there some incompatibility issue between Snow Leopard and Entourage calendar displays?

And while I'm at it, is there any way to change the font size for events in the Calendar or the overall color scheme of the Calendar?
thanks
LindaP

Don't use the color yellow for a category color. You can edit the colors.
Select "other" and try some of the crayon colors. Stay away from yellow,
lime and other neon-like colors.

Sorry, but you can't change the entries in the Calendar. You can change the
list items, but not the events. Be sure to send Microsoft feedback to let
them know you want to be able to customize font size. under the Help menu in
all of the Office applications or visit

Dear Diane,
thanks so much for the reply. I've tried other colors. Most of them don't work. They are pale and don't read well. And with the tiny font, I'm better off with black. It's very strange because this happens ONLY if you set a time for your event. If you just choose "all day" you get a lovely and very visible bar of the color of your category. Why they decided to give two different displays to a nearly identical function is beyond me. When you view their video on how to use Calendar, it shows the bar of color even when you set a time. But in reality, that bar does not appear if you set a time. I'll write to Microsoft, but it's hard to describe the issue. You really have to try it to see it.

Thanks again for the response. I'll just stop using Categories until they fix this. I can't believe this hasn't bothered anyone else.

Tasks might be a better way to manage some events rather than use the
calendar. Incomplete tasks are displayed on the To Do List that you can show
as a column in the Calendar view.
